My time

It’s all about me for once!

Why is it so hard to be accepted after one proves their worth but so easy to accept someone that hasn’t proved anything?

Matt’s kids accept their mother, and everything she doesn’t do for them. While I make sure to provide them with not just essential needs, but to build them into something better. For example, Prestyn took one shower in the seven days she was with her mother. She is old enough now (11 yrs old) to know better, but now influenced by her mother, she chooses not to.

This was an issue when I first met Prestyn and she had constant “skin issues”. I instilled a rule of showering every day, no exceptions, and her “skin issues” were nonexistent. This became her normal every day routine, I didn’t even have to remind her anymore. Then I’m out of her life for nine months and she reverts back to the old ways of not taking care of herself.

I guess I’m driven to make an impact on someone, since I couldn’t with my own son. I thrive to be better than I was before and expect others to do the same. I’ve pushed myself to be a better version than what I grew up with, I desired more than the bare minimum.

Last week with the kids gave me the hope I needed for this family. Knowing the last nine months of our separation they never got answers to why. That’s the positive side of kids, they don’t always want or need the why’s answered to accept and move on. Especially these kids, they’ve been through so much in the last probably six years, that my situation with their dad is bare minimum to what they are used to. I’m so glad I’m in their lives and thankful they accept me, want to know me, and be a part of their family.
