My time

It’s all about me for once!

Matt and I talk a lot about everything, one of many qualities I love about him. Last night we got into the discussion of addiction and the struggles with it. He showed some light on “his versus others” addiction, everyone struggles differently. We both came to the realization that my son started smoking weed very young, thanks to his niece and friends. The soon became not enough for him to want to experiment on harder drugs, acid, pills, who knows what else.

Matt hadn’t started his drug experience until his mid-twenties as my son started probably 12 or 13 years old. Men’s brains don’t finish developing the responsibility, impulse control and decision making function until age 25-30. This tells me that my son’s brain wasn’t developed by the time he started, and continues to use. Which means he has probably slowed his development down tremendously and his future will suffer with it.

I have decided to go ahead and take what comes at me when I don’t call to tell my son Happy 19th Birthday. I can only control my actions and how he decides to handle it is under his control. I have to remind myself that he chose this, he chose to walk out on me, chose to be dependent on my mother and anyone else that’s willing to enable him.

Instead of focusing on someone that doesn’t want to learn from, I will focus on the family that does. The boys Matt will handle, he’s the father, and they are passed the point of needing me. Prestyn on the other hand….holy fuck balls….this will be a huge fucking challenge! An eleven year old girl, personality of her father, attitude and narcissism from her mother.
